Appeals court blocks Fearless Fund from awarding grants to Black women

    https://wapo.st/4aOQBTt

A panel of the 11th Circuit, reversing a lower court ruling, says the venture capital firm may not issue the $20,000 grants while the legal case plays out.

A panel on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit ruled Monday that an Atlanta-based venture capital firm should be temporarily blocked from issuing grants reserved for Black women-owned businesses, saying that doing so would likely discriminate against business owners of other races.

I'd like to see the district courts ruling. How could anyone think that passes muster?

Wow, the venture capital firm is private, no?

Ever since the whole Asian Kids vs. Harvard thing, I’ve been waiting for someone to go after SWaM Awards for Government Contracting and Procurement Awards. Advancing minority owned businesses is essentially discrimination against Caucasian owned businesses…

Like in Shawshank, Do you trust your wife?

Make her the 51% owner of your business and the federal & state governments will beg you to take money.

I know more than one guy who did this, all nice and legal. A dumb idea, bad for everyone.

And a guy here with a very successful landscaping and supply business sits in fed jail today because he had a black employee serve as the titular head of a shell company to get contracts.

My pal from my old consulting days now is the CEO of a minority-owned firm (his wife who he met when we were working in Mexico in 1992 is the “owner”, and is also a stay-at-home mom). He Hoovers up government contracts.
