Judge Alito is not dumb, and I am sure his wife is not either. Having said that, hanging a flag upside down because you have a arguement with your neighbor seems kind of a weird response to the situation.
From what little I know, I am guessing that Judge Alito probably voted for President Trump. Is there any thing wrong with that? Of course not. But knowing that you will be under a microscope on anything you do outside (and actually inside) the courtroom, this seems like a really dumb move.
And then there was something that came out that there was a controversial flag flying over his vacation home.

Of course. Now how that perception is delivered is important. Specifically, CNN is making hay of the fact that Alito (or his wife) might have expressed a political opinion. Hence my comment about Merchan, the donor to Joe Biden whose daughter works for a Democrat PAC (iirc). Did CNN report his donations, his daughter's affiliations, or the "caution letter" he received?

Agree, there is bias in media, but Supreme Court judge > federal judge. (yes, they should all be unbias, but we both know that is not the case, even at the Supreme Court.)

This past Monday was Victoria Day holiday here commemorating the birthday of Queen Victoria. As in past years I hoisted my symbols of the British Monarchy and Empire, the Red Ensign and White Ensign, off our second floor balcony overlooking the front street. Most people under 65 years of age have no idea of the Imperial significance of either flag.
Good for Alito to fly the flag that represents his own personal values. If someone takes offence, well, that’s just too damn bad, isn’t it?

Again, it is the perception. Some random guys carrying an upside down flag is not good. Flying it at a Supreme Court Judge house? Not so good. And the excuse that it was down because of a dispute with a neighbor sounds pretty lame to me.Something like that would never cross my mind to do if a neighbor got me mad.

So Durbin wants Alito to recuse himself in any Jan 6th trials because Alito's wife hung a flag with "insurrectionist" meaning.
Remember when he called for RBG to recuse herself from anything involving Trump because her husband said they would move to New Zealand if he wins?
