As you guys know, Luke is planning on doing a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant program after graduation. He’s preparing for the GRE right now. The GRE score will be pretty important for which program he goes to. He (and we) are really hoping for Case Western (DC) first as he would be able to live at home, reducing a big part of his expense, plus they have an incredible success rate. The second choice is Emory.

So his GPA is borderline. It’s low for Case Western and probably competitive for Emory. A great GRE score (80th percentile) could get him into Case Western. A good GRE (60th percentile) would likely put him into Emory. So you can appreciate why the test is important. Anybody have any experience with GRE prep courses?

The second question is if he doesn’t get the GRE score he needs. The best option is to retake if needed, but we’re also kicking around the backup/backup plan of going back to school for another semester to retake a couple of courses. His German 4 (C) and an earlier chemistry course are what’s brought his his overall GPA down. We are getting conflicting information about whether that’s possible or advisable. Does anybody have any experience.

Again, the best option is to get a great GRE score, and retake if necessary, but if he needs to retake it several times, it could interfere with his last 2 semesters of study.

    The Brad
