Somewhat.
But you know what? Being a great diagnostician is part science, part pure God-given talent. A really good doc can pull information from multiple observations, conversations and diagnostics to blow through the decision making tree and arrive at a conclusion...Or at least know all the right questions to ask.

In my various trips to the doctor, I've had appendicitis diagnosed as nothing, a ruptured quad tendon diagnosed as nothing, a different ruptured quad tendon diagnosed as an ACL tear which led me to delay treatment of it, which led to complications in the joint that I feel at this very moment. I think there is plenty of room for improvement, and I do not subscribe to the House theory of magical doctors.

I like that idea of making more doctors. What’s the fraction of the population that has what it takes, talent- and/or work-ethics-wise, to be “good enough doctors” in your view? Are there enough of them?

Yes, there are. Especially Family Practice type guys.
I think you could double medical school slots and fill them with people that could make the grind.

I’ll be the unpopular one, here. I have to agree with Horace. There have been numerous studies where AI docs have consistently outperformed human diagnosticians, and it wasn’t even close. There’s not been a single study to have a human doctor outperform AI. I believe AI with a human doctor providing oversight, will become the norm within 15 years. I think you will still see the need for humans to be making the final call, but those physicians will become more and more reliant on the AI diagnosis.
On the intermediate level, it’s likely the PA’s and NP’s that are most endangered by AI.

Having “AI doctors” and training more human doctors are not mutually exclusive.
AI doctors will be better at some things, human doctors will be better at some other things. AI doctors will become better at more things, and there will be new things that need human doctors.
