    @jon-nyc said in 20,000,000, but I'd settle for 2-5M:

    How do they propose to find them?

    Simple. You can deport them when the all show up for their court hearings.

    I mean, they're going to do that, right?

      I think the word would get around pretty fast and people would stop going to their hearings.

      They’ll end up, after a lot of drama, with the same formula they use every time they have a trifecta: take away health care and food assistance from low income families and use the money to fund tax cuts for their donors.

          The illegals I knew in California had a pretty much total disregard for their legal responsibilities.

                Seriously though, does anyone know if they have a realistic plan? Or is this just rhetoric?

                  If there is a plan it has the be the low hanging fruit, which would be the folks who are complying.

                    I think it's something just being kicked around. Probably political fodder.

                    OTOH, any illegal arrested should be prosecuted for any serious crime, but deported for any misdemeanor. Might even pick one or two cities and crack down a bit. First, it discourages any new illegals from coming here and secondly, maybe some here would quietly leave.

                      Logistically speaking it seems much easier to put a brake on new entrants than to find people already here.

                      I think another avenue (not sure if it would require legislation or executive order) would be to tighten up what qualifies one for asylum.

                        There has to be a carrot and stick.

                        Reward those who identify themselves with some kind of legalization plan.

                        Relentlessly hunt those who remain hidden. Reward the hunters with cash bounties and other rewards. Make TV shows that make the hunters into heroes.

                          Agree. Based on my knowledge of people who are in the US illegally, maybe 10-20% are here for reasons other than economic.

                            It's my understanding that an asylum visa can be bought for a few thousand dollars.

                            Education is extremely important.
