What happened to iconic tool brands

Craftsman made good hand tools. Used to have a lifetime guarantee, iirc.

They made crap power tools.

I had a Delta Unisaw. Loved that saw.

Porter Cable was the best circular saw I ever had.

I had an old Craftsman riding mower that was maybe produced in the 1980s or 1990s. It worked well enough for me for when I had it. No idea if it's considered better or worse than other riding mowers at the time.

Most of the power tools I have now are Makita.

Bostitch nailers. Grizzly saws and jointer, Makita and Dewalt portables. Hand tools are a mixture of good and junk.
