Cars are a lot more reliable than they used to be. When I was a kid or even in my twenties, you were lucky if they made it to 100K.
Also, with the current state of the used car market, and the uncertainty of buying something with an unknown history, I'd say keeping an older car makes a lot of sense. We've held on to ours and my son drives it to college with about 130K on the clock.

This might change the used car market.
These 9 States Are Banning the Sale of Gas-Powered Cars
More states are following California's lead in ending the sale of new vehicles with internal combustion engines.
California is gearing up to prohibit the sale of new gas-powered cars. A measure approved by the California Air Resources Board in August 2022 requires all new cars, SUVs and pickup trucks sold in the state to generate zero tailpipe emissions by 2035.

I’ll give my 2021 Mazda to the boy when he goes to college (assuming he’s not in a big city). By then I imagine it’ll have 100k on it. Then I’ll buy what will likely be my last car.
