Noem book dogged by new claims of inaccuracies
Days ahead of its release, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem is mired in yet more controversy surrounding the impending release of her new memoir — and this time, it involves an allegation about former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley.
First came Noem’s disclosure about shooting and killing her 14-month-old wirehair pointer, Cricket, for misbehaving. Then, just as the dog-killing news cycle was cresting, the Dakota Scout reported on an anecdote in “No Going Back” that on its face is highly improbable: Noem’s claim that she met with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un while serving as a back-bencher in Congress.
“Through my tenure on the House Armed Services Committee,” Noem wrote, “I had the chance to travel to many countries to meet with world leaders. I remember when I met with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. I’m sure he underestimated me, having no clue about my experience staring down little tyrants (I’d been a children’s pastor, after all).”
In fact, the only part of this that checks out is Kim “having no clue about” Noem — because they never met.

She's probably terrorized a whole bunch of badly-behaved 8 years olds during her days at Sunday school. Maybe she is qualified to run as Trump's second after all. And we all know how much he likes his Biblical teachings.

Eating a lemon pie and shooting a bad dog that bites people are two different things.
I don't approve of how she did things, but in the real world, country people can and do kill animals. I put two rounds of buckshot into one of my barn toms, because he whipped one of my favorite young cats.
The governor was an idiot for publicizing the incident. Until I know a bit more, I'm not going to say she was an idiot for shooting the dog.

enough about the dog...turns out she also described a meeting with kim jong un which apparently never took place. so how much of this book is her, and how much is ghost writing, where the ghost writer is giving a "situation" and sort of makes up dialogue, later to find out the "situation" didnt happen

Why it matters: Noem offered to step down early as governor for the role, according to a person familiar with her conversation with former NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre.
- Late last fall, Noem called LaPierre to advocate to be the next executive vice president or CEO of the gun lobby.
- Noem is now in a heated PR cycle over passages in her book about shooting her dog and meeting with Kim Jong Un.
The big picture: Noem has long been aligned with the NRA, signing an executive order during its annual conference last year.
- Her name came up in very senior NRA circles immediately after LaPierre resigned in January, according to a source familiar.
- LaPierre has little official control over who will be tapped as his successor, but the 76-person board, stocked with many people he nominated, will vote to determine who obtains the position.
Zoom in: Noem was previously seen as a potential contender to be Trump's running mate. She has vehemently defended her decision to shoot her dog, Cricket, arguing the 14-month-old animal was dangerous and untrainable.
- When pressed on the supposed Kim Jong Un meeting, Noem refused to provide a definitive answer but said the book would be changed.
The other side: A spokesperson for Noem "unequivocally" denied that the governor had a conversation with LaPierre.
