Not directly related, but this caught my eye:
Russia often gained control of the Baltic states before NATO could respond,
I wonder if they underestimated the power of the Russia army, as was done during Communism (and maybe even teh invasion of Ukraine). Everybody thought that USSR had such a powerful military, and I think it was not so.
