As far as individual cheese slices go, they've got a point. It's very wasteful. When you buy them pre-sliced from the deli they're not wrapped like that.

Environmentalism. It's not a bad thing in a capitalistic society, if it's done right. This is where we could do good, while not hurting business.
The cheese wrappers aren't the problem, it's the attitude. The attitude should be to package what we can in reusable packaging. From soft drnks in glass bottles to more products in paper packaging. To build cars and houses that last longer and are easy to repair.

The attitude is also behind the reaction which tends to treat any attempt to reward more environmental responsibility as an assault on personal freedom.

No problem with good stewardship. But they do need to get rid of those wretched compostable paper straws. Those things are horrible.
And banning individual wrapped cheese? No problem, but it’s pissing in the ocean compared to the plastic contamination from India…
