Look at this bunch of troublemakers in Vienna - 1967.

And this was, I believe, in Munich.

You all look too young to drink, which makes Munich kinda sad…

Sorry to derail @taiwan_girl 's thread...

This trip to Europe was part of an educational program sponsored by our high school.

It consisted of a 5 week stay in a small town in Austria - Mayrhofen. The program included daily studies at the local branch of the University of Innsbruck. We had classes in German for 2 hours in the morning, and 2 hours in the afternoon. The rest of the day was ours. The courses earned us college (transferrable) credits that could be applied to any college in the US.

There were 13 of us from my (all boys) high school, and (I think) 10 girls from the local girls' high school. We met up with a bunch of kids from Houston.

The program included tuition, room, board and weekend excursions to local cities: Vienna, Salzburg, Merano (in Italy), Innsbruck.

There was a 6th week - we left Mayrhofen and traveled north through Austria and into Germany. We stopped in Munich, Nuremberg and a bunch of other cities, ending up in Frankfurt.

The package also included airfare from New York to Munich (Eastbound) and bus to Mayrhofen. Return flight from Frankfurt to New York was included.

The only expenses you had were that of getting from Chicago to New York and whatever spending money you thought you might need.

              The cost?

              $700.

              Today, that's $6500 or so.

Not a bad price for 6 weeks in Europe, tours, and tuition.

              Here's where we stayed:

                  @LuFins-Dad

I was last there in 2019 and saw none of that. Must have been a temporary thing during the major influx in the early days of the Syrian war.

Or happenstance that you saw it and that I didn’t.

                    Interesting video

                    https://www.theguardian.com/society/video/2024/apr/18/why-pragues-homeless-are-resorting-to-poverty-tourism-video

Did see some homeless/beggars but I did not think it was a huge number (especially after what I saw in Los Angeles a couple of years ago. 😳 )
