Douglas Murray weighs in with support of Rowling:

Murray and Rowling are two peas in a pod in the sense that both enjoy a fight against a self-righteous mob. A rare quality in humans. Most of us are strongly wired to get along with the mob. Which has its roots in evolution, when getting along with the mob was of existential importance to any individual.

I don't think it's just that. Rowling's kind of big on women's safety due to some nasty stuff that's happened to her personally, and that's where a lot of her opinions on transgenderism are coming from.
But yeah she also has a lot of F.U. money which kind of helps.

Well, it's Web 2.0. Social media platforms reward being first. So if you can gin up a mob, you get a ton of recognition, support and hell even brand deals.
