IMO any attempt to protect women from these attacks runs a greater risk of amplifying our already racist tendencies in law enforcement. It breaks my heart to say this, but women in NYC will simply have to suffer these attacks. There are more important social issues at play. IMO, racism is the most important issue we face. It was more important than the pandemic, and it is more important than random violence against women. I am sorry to have to say that, but my conscience compels me.

I appreciated that one of the victims, in trying to explain why it happened to her, theorized that she had been looking down, and her assailant got angry that she wasn't aware of her surroundings, and so reminded her to be more aware. Those are the politics of compassion that we must maintain if we are to heal as a society from our systemic racism, and it's encouraging that that young lady is playing her part.
