Ronna McDaniel, who stepped down as chairwoman of the Republican National Committee this month, is joining NBC News as an on-air contributor, the network said on Friday.

The hire adds a reliably conservative voice to NBC’s stable of political analysts. Ms. McDaniel is also expected to provide commentary on MSNBC, NBC’s left-leaning cable cousin and a network that former President Donald J. Trump and his allies often accuse of being an arm of the Democratic Party.

“It couldn’t be a more important moment to have a voice like Ronna’s on the team,” Carrie Budoff Brown, who oversees NBC News political coverage, wrote in a memo, adding that Ms. McDaniel would provide “an insider’s perspective on national politics and the future of the Republican Party.” Ms. McDaniel will be especially involved in the coverage of the 2024 campaign, including election nights.

She was selected by Mr. Trump to lead the Republican Party after she spearheaded his 2016 presidential campaign victory in Michigan. As party chairwoman, she occasionally clashed with Mr. Trump. Last year, he complained about her decision to sponsor multiple Republican presidential primary debates, one of which was hosted by NBC, with Mr. Trump’s rivals.

And then, because of the screeching harpies (of both gender) reverses the decision.

      https://www.wsj.com/business/media/msnbc-has-no-plans-to-have-ex-rnc-chief-on-network-0d88e70c

MSNBC has no plans to have former Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel on the cable network, its president told employees following the news of her hiring at NBC News.

Rashida Jones, the cable network’s president, has been seeking to address internal backlash in the wake of an internal Friday announcement by NBC News regarding McDaniel’s hiring as an on-air contributor. In that internal memo, the political chief, Carrie Budoff Brown, said McDaniel would contribute “across all NBC News platforms,” causing turmoil among several of the network’s on-air hosts and staffers, people familiar with the matter said. MSNBC is part of the NBC News division.

Jones told employees the cable network has no plans to have McDaniel on the channel, according to people familiar with the conversations. A number of MSNBC anchors and producers have voiced concern internally about McDaniel’s ties to former President Donald Trump and the RNC’s role in his efforts to challenge the 2020 election results.

Ronna is more of the Bush/Romney variety. I'm not sure I'd type her as hard conservative.

As far as the New York Times is concerned, anyone to the right of Karl Marx is a "reliable conservative voice."

Meh. Trump appointed here in 2016; how conservative can she be?

NBC and MSNBC are two different channels.
Not really news if one channel hires a talking head that the other channel does not plan to put on air.

It's like Trader Joe's and ALDI are two different chains despite both owned by the same corporate parent, yet nobody should be surprised if a merchandise carried in one is not carried in the other.

NBC and MSNBC are two different channels.

Not quite. When you look at the news division of NBC, it's much of the logistics and production behind the harder news of MSNBC. And while MSNBC offers opinion shows like Morning Joe, The Reidout and Politcs Nation with our favorite race-baiter, the Rev-ah-rund Al Sharpton, the political point of view between NBC and its lovechild MSNBC, bleeds into both entities hard news programs.

For example, NBC has always been known as Second Amendment haters. Watch how they cover any news involving guns. MSNBC takes an identical tack in its hard news coverage. It's like that for multiple issues.

So while technically they may be different, the sum genetic news-product of the two is somewhat akin to you screwing your sister... Different entity, but lots of overlap.

                    Greenwald:

NBC negotiated a contract with Jen Psaki while she was White House Press Secretary.

ABC hired George Stephanopoulos -- directly from the Clinton WH, with no journalism experience.

I wonder if there was a contract, and how much it was worth?

What do these talking heads earn anyway? You know, the occasional pundit who shows up on Sunday AM.

By the way, have they fired Rachel Maddow for spreading lies?

McDaniel expects to be fully paid out for her contract, two years at $300,000 annually, since she did not breach its terms, we’re told — meaning that her single, not-quite-20-minute interview Sunday could cost the Peacock more than $30,000 per minute, or $500 per second.

McDaniel, we’re told, is exploring potential defamation and hostile work environment torts after MSNBC’s top talent — momentarily her colleagues — took turns Monday blasting her on air. (NBC declined to comment about the $600,000 figure or her potential claims.)

McDaniel was silent yesterday as the fallout from the internal network revolt mounted, and her perspective and role in the deal was largely lost as it unraveled in real time. She and her allies are, unsurprisingly, furious about how everything went down, believing she was misled about how much she’d be welcomed into the fold by executives who had aggressively recruited her. They blame the same NBC brass for botching the situation by not having her meet with top network talent ahead of the rollout, then caving to internal pressure from liberal-leaning hosts.

NBC News’s dramatic hiring and firing of a former RNC chairwoman this week threatens to undo years of repositioning itself as friendly to Republican officials and viewers.

NBCUniversal’s news division announced Friday it had hired Ronna McDaniel as an on-air contributor who would appear on NBC and MSNBC. On Tuesday NBCUniversal News Group chief Cesar Conde announced that he’d decided to end the network’s deal with McDaniel after an open revolt by his stars over hiring someone who had played a role in Donald Trump’s attempt to contest the 2020 election he lost.

But while the abrupt reversal was cheered by some MSNBC staff, other NBC News journalists said they believe the move will only continue to strengthen complaints by Republicans that the network doesn’t want to hear their perspectives.

Now, NBC staffers are bracing for Republican backlash, fielding texts from angry GOP sources.

“Political reporters here didn’t take part in the backlash, nor did they get to give input on the hire,” one NBC News journalist said. “But they’ll be the ones who have to pick up the pieces with sources who are now dismayed with the organization.”

Four NBC News staffers expressed concern that instead of fixing the problem, hiring and then firing McDaniel had only alienated liberal viewers while confirming Republican fears. Two Republican aides told Semafor they’d texted their NBC News contacts to express their anger with the decision.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.
