One of Ted Gioia's theories is that there's a culture in rap that's led to its ascent above rock.
While boastful, it's very common in rap to do a collaboration and put that person's name front and center in the title of the song. Or, they'll just straightup write songs about how great someone else is.
Rock folks don't do that. It's led to a lot less cross-pollination and as a result, hurt its relevance.
Probably some truth to that.

Right but I just mean in the context of audience interest in the genre. Not whether they're all good guys.
