    Times were different, of course, and I didn't graduate with another degree.

    But, I completed medical school in 3 ½ years. I was 6 months into my residency when I attended my "graduation" ceremony.

    The Dean? Guy named Jim Eckenhoff. After I finished my residency, we became quite friendly. Hell of a guy.

        Given the title, I’d venture four years.

            Funny story about Eckenhoff.

            He was dean of the medical school from 1970 to 1983. Prior to that, he was Chairman of the Anesthesia Department - which he established. After leaving the dean's position, he made it a point to come to the operating room at least once a month to teach residents and medical students. He'd spend the morning with us.

            In 1985, or so, we had a patient who needed his prostate done. He was too sick for a general anesthetic, supposedly, so a spinal anesthetic was planned. The problem, in addition to his poor medical condition is that he had Creutzfeld-Jakob encephalopathy - the human variant of "mad cow disease."

            CJ is transmitted through contact with nerve tissue and spinal fluid.

            Of course, no one was interested in sticking a needle in this guy's back for fear of getting in contact with his cerebrospinal fluid.

            Jim, being Jim, said, "I'll do the case! I'm 70 years old, and KJ has an incubation period of about 25 years (and longer). I should be lucky to get it at age 95."

            Case went fine, and Jim passed away at the age of 81.

              If you're taking more than four years, you're hogging resources. Do your advanced stuff after graduation.

                @George-K Great picture!!!

                It would be interesting to see if this year class was "odd" for graduating in 4 years due to pandemic, etc. The pandemic messed up a lot of things.
