To think it is one thing...

Still a huge step up from Trump.
Yes. However, this is the kind of thing one comes to expect from Trump.
Do you also expect that a former CIA direct and Army general? Does one person's bad behavior excuse another's?
Isn't the point of retiring that you can say whatever the hell you like?
Sure. But does that make it not nekulturny? He could have been court-martialed for saying that before retiring. He had the good sense to not do it.
So, let me rephrase my question:
Does the fear of getting fired justify one from bad behavior?
"I was really thinking this, but I didn't want to say it because I might lose my job" is a pretty flimsy statement for an upstanding former general. He may well be right, but, as a former military man, the thought of "you repeat the office, not the man" should apply, and that was disrespectful.
Oh, and for the record, I think Pence is wrong on this...

Pence thinks evolution is only a theory, and college sports is worth dying for.
You fill in the blanks.

Yes, those college athletes are dropping like flies.
Is the current number of college athletes killed by covid above or below zero?
I saw one projection by experts that says if college sports resume there could be between 3 and 7 deaths caused by the virus.

Some things are definitely worth taking risks over. I remain unconvinced that college football is important enough to warrant intervention by a man who is almost certainly tested for Covid-19 on a daily basis.
YMMV may vary, obviously.

It's football...I don't think thou understand the pressure to play, not only from the fans, but from the players themselves. Miles Brennen has waited his turn at LSU. The kid has the possibility of going in the first round.
First round money may be more than you will make in your lifetime.
That's the pressure...

Evolution IS a theory. Unless you've made some sort of discovery that impacts the scientific use of the word theory and haven't told anyone about it...

There's a difference between 'just a theory' and a scientific theory.
Pence has claimed that Intelligent Design is equally valid, and from a scientific perspective, it isn't.

Link to videoThere are some pretty big gaps in the Theory of Evolution. Even Darwin knew that.

I'm sure you'll find this I interesting, seeing as how enlightened and open minded you are and all, but there are a sizeable number of scientists who admit that intelligent design has just as much credibility as a scientific theory as evolution.

He calls out Trump all the time for the exact behavior he exhibits. Hey, it’s his legacy. He gets to choose it.
The crazy season is on us. And the baseline is batshit crazy.
It’s gonna get wild.
-
@Doctor-Phibes said in To think it is one thing...:
Not to belabor the obvious, but this is exactly what happens with evolution.
Of course, that doesn’t make it wrong
-
Pedantic point:
A scientific theory never becomes a law with additional information. There is no term to denote a "stronger" form of a theory.
A law explains a relationship between observed phenomenon, a theory explains why it happens.
The theory of conservation of energy will remain a theory no matter how certain we are that it's true.
The theory of evolution will always remain a theory, no matter how much evidence is put against it.

A theory is testable and has a track record of at least some data.
For evolution - you can test the theory or falsify it with data.
For intelligent design - it's hard to gather evidence of divine intervention or falsify the fact that it happened. It's fundamentally a matter of faith.
In that sense, it feels like intelligent design can be a hypothesis (doesn't need data), but not a theory (needs data).

Oh, no. Sorry, but it IS a scientific theory, based on the very criteria you laid out. Open your mind and go study the subject.

They put a guy who doesn't believe in natural selection in charge of the freaking Covid team.
Only in America. And admittedly, most likely Iran.
