    • A responsible approach to Generative AI products:
Out of an abundance of caution on such an important topic, we have begun to roll out restrictions on the types of election-related queries for which Gemini will return responses. We take our responsibility for providing high-quality information for these types of queries seriously, and are continuously working to improve our protections.

    Probably a good thing.
    What say you?

I think companies should stop having a "mission" with their AI tools. They should not try to "be good", or "foster democracy" or whatever. They should just focus on making their tools as good as possible, and let their users be adults who can decide for themselves if they find the answer the tool gives useful.

It comes down to what makes a "good" tool. Good for what? Good for whom?

In this case it seem Google thinks adding certain restrictions makes this tool "better." In some other cases someone else may argue the opposite.

Besides, maybe it's not just a "tool." Maybe it's a "platform," or a "commercial operation" with profit motives, or a "public/community service" with benevolent interests.
