Going to a town hall tonight

Our state representative will be there flogging a plan to eliminate Ohio's income tax over six years. They think it will stimulate economic growth and bring families to Ohio, citing Texas, Florida and Tennessee.
Who doesn't like lower taxes? Well, maybe me. It would eliminate $10B in state funds, with nothing but hope to replace them. And, of course, it eliminates the higher income tax brackets faster than the lower ones, benefiting those who make over $150K much more than the middle class.
This month will mark 27 years since the Ohio Supreme Court declared our school funding scheme illegal. Since then several legislatures have simply ignored the ruling. Two full generations of K-12 kids have gone through this system. Florida, Texas and Tennessee all rank in the bottom ten states in public education.
Fix the problems we already have then let's talk about these populist schemes.

That's the way to do it.

@Mik's post promoted me to look up Ohio's public school funding issues.
Looks like it started around the time DeWine took office, and also has something to do with sending tax payer money to private schools in the form of vouchers in the name of school choice. The op-ed author cites the fact that more than $1 Billion has been redistributed through vouchers (and I don't know what %percentage that represents in Ohio's education budget), and the voucher students underperform public school students anyway. :man-shrugging:
@Mik what do you think are the main problems with Ohio's education funding?

I may have found a reason to vote for Trump over Biden last night. Part of this plan is to tap Ohio's massive natural gas field. It is proven to be the largest in the western hemisphere and possibly the largest in the world. This step is far more likely under a Trump administration.
