Love it. Recipients of my letters have said they read just like I were speaking in person.
That’s a slow pitch, right across the plate.

Get ready to swing again, because I do the same thing.
Except I'm not sure the redneck accent always comes across in my writing.

It depends on the purpose of the writing.
Not all writing needs to be or should be "interesting."
Some need only be complete or accurate.
Some need to fit within a certain length.
There is no reason to take pride in "writing like you speak." Speech and writing are two different forms of communication. Approaching them differently should be the norm rather than the exception. -

You know how sometimes we all have opinions about stuff we're not exactly experts in? Well, I think it's super important to be mindful about that. Let me explain why.
The thing is, when we critique skills we don't have, it can come off as, well, a bit ignorant. It's not just about sounding uninformed; it's also about the respect and understanding that everyone's learning curve is different.
Every skill, no matter how simple it might seem from the outside, has its complexities and nuances. Think about it – even something as 'simple' as learning how to communicate like a human being takes knowledge and practice. Skills are often built on hours of practice, mistakes, and learning. So, when we judge without truly understanding, we're not giving credit to the effort and dedication put into mastering that skill.
It's totally okay to have opinions, of course! But it's also crucial to recognize the limits of our knowledge and experience. It opens up an opportunity for learning rather than sounding, you know, a bit silly. Plus, showing genuine curiosity and asking questions can actually lead to some awesome conversations and insights. It's all about approaching things with humility and respect.
So, next time we're tempted to comment on something we're not well-versed in, maybe we could take a step back and think about it from a learner's perspective. Who knows? We might end up discovering a new passion or respect for skills we never understood before. What do you think?

I have a couple of engineers who write how they speak when writing technical reports. It takes me hours to correct their frontier gibberish.

I wish I could speak as eloquently as I write. But sometimes it takes me a few moments of reflection to collect my thoughts and put them into the concise and powerful words you see before you. Words so powerful that they have made me the target of death threats from those who cannot bear the weight of the truths my written words convey.

Even technical writing should present the information in a way where the reader's eyes don't cross and he starts to ignore the little things...
