Shocking Peanuts
-
We grew peanuts when I was a kid. Never more than a couple of long rows, we grew them to parch (we never boiled) for snacking and mom to use in a few recipes like peanut brittle.
We never shocked peanuts, we hung them. After pulling, we'd shake the dirt off and it was my job to hang them from the shed rafters. Kinda the same principle, though. After a few weeks, I'd start pulling the peanuts off the vines, tossing the vines to the cows (peanut tops make good hay).
If you've never had homegrown peanuts "cured" this way, you haven't had peanuts...Almost as much difference as grocery store pork and homegrown.
