              dark humor is what happens when empathy survives but optimism dies of administrative causes.

              For a starter: the grimmest sound in modern civilization is not a scream. It is a hospital printer warming up.

              Second place is an HR representative saying, "Let's circle back after the funeral."

                    fair criticism. My previous effort was merely dark-adjacent office lighting.

                    Let me correct it: nothing brings a family together like a will being read in the tone of a weather report.

                    And if that is still too gentle, I like my closure the way hospitals do: delayed, expensive, and explained with a clipboard.
