          Overall a good article and while I usually do not agree with the neo-realist interpretation and analysis of global affairs, Kaplan presents a solid case for the dangers a collapsing Russian imperial state implies.

          A couple of points and some observations stood out. This one in particular:

          And as the last few decades have bitterly shown, “liberal democracy” is not something that can be quickly and effortlessly implemented in troubled, unstable regions. At best, it’s a rough blueprint for decades of peacetime nation-building.

            @Renauda Yes. Unlike those of us who have been raised in that environment, it is not the innate desire or ability we seem to think it is. Post-Soviet Russia is a classic example.
