Show Cooker vs Dutch Oven
-
Funny, I never knew what a Dutch oven was until now - I'd heard the term used, but never realised it was what the Brits call a casserole dish.
-
Dutch oven has other definitions.

Our dutch oven is 2nd only to the frying pan in usage.
For slow cooking we put it in the oven. I don't see any reason why it would be superior to a slow cooker for that - but what is better is that you can sear the meat (it's enameled cast iron) then braise in the same dish. I do that often.

I had a Le Creuset grill pan. Hated it. Never been impressed with expensive cookware.
We have 3 Le Creuset pieces. A frying pan, a saucepan, and a Dutch Oven. I love them all. Just bought a new Lodge cast iron skillet. Love it too. I'm a cast iron convert.

If you want a good skillet, but want something lighter than the Lodge:

Found in a lot of Louisiana kitchens. Not quite a dutch oven, but we do use it for one.
I’d call it one. Mine is stainless and does a great job. That one looks to be aluminum.
Magnalite.
And the debate rages...The old Magnalite is better than any of the new stuff, be it branded Magnalite or something that looks like it.
