A local pediatrician told my daughter he had admitted seven boys to the hospital this flu season for hematuria. This happened during a relapse with the flu. Patients were treated with IV fluids.

That's why my grandson is out of school today and tomorrow, even though he's been afebrile for over 24 hours.

Question...Hematuria due to rhabdomylosis? Why just boys? And doesn't seven cases in a single practice (albeit a busy one) seem like an awful lot?

      Hematuria due to rhabdomylosis?

D4's friend's husband was hospitalized with rhabdo - no history of trauma, strenuous exercise, etc.

      Duh...

I've NEVER seen a case, though my population might have been different.

For perspective, my mother was a pediatrician. In 30+ years of suburban Chicago practice, you know how many leukemias she saw?

      Two.

      So yeah, that's a lot.

What do they have in common, just the flu?

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

        Flu.

I think (not 100% certain) all were Type A.

Over the years, I've seen a few cases of Rhabdo, all in guys, all that had been doing extreme exercise. Their CK's are through the roof.
