I was curious what he meant by this (sounds like a very Bernie thing to say).

This is from the WH website (https://www.whitehouse.gov/articles/congress-didnt-act-on-prescription-drug-prices-so-president-trump-did/)

The first order directs federally qualified health centers to pass along massive discounts on insulin and epinephrine from drug companies to low-income Americans.

The second order will allow the safe, legal importation of prescription drugs from Canada and other countries where the price for identical drugs is lower.

The third order will prohibit secret deals between drug manufacturers and pharmacy “benefit manager” middlemen, ensuring patients directly benefit from available discounts at the pharmacy counter.

The fourth order ensures the United States pays the lowest price available among economically advanced countries for Medicare Part B drugs. The United States often pays 80 percent more for these drugs than other developed nations.

What does this mean? My understanding is that drug makers price for the U.S. market (relatively lower regulation here), then "get what they can" from the rest of the world.

    Is that how it works?

Doesn't this change the biz model of pharma companies (certain drugs become unprofitable)? Can you do this with executive order?

Yes, I think he can set purchasing policies, and your assessment is essentially correct on how it works.

I don't think I've ever seen an anti-Trump Big Pharma commercial.

And the bottom line is that something people have talked about for years, gets done.

Yeah, except for the minor detail that none of them are done yet. They all would need to go through the HHS rule-making process which kicks the can past the election.

Some of the measures Trump was ridiculing as recently as 6 months ago.

Remember he campaigned on letting Medicare negotiate drug prices in 2016. After the election he had one - one! - meeting with drug lobbyists and exited parroting their line about 'we can't have government set drug prices'.

This is a cheap election ploy.

                      Only non-witches get due process.

His epic flip-flop happened within 2 weeks of inauguration. He sounded like Bernie on January 11th, taking 3% off the price of pharma stocks with a single press conference.

20 days later her walked out of a meeting with Pharma lobbyists parroting their talking points.

Yep. And I've also said some people are all hat and no cattle. Some people can effect no change at all, even if they try. Yet, they can constantly belittle people who are actually trying to accomplish something.

@Jolly Obama tried and was basically defeated by the pharma lobby. But at least he was beaten on the hill, rather than rolled in a single meeting.
