    https://www.nationalreview.com/2024/01/bidens-brazenness-on-the-border/

We’ll withhold judgment on the deal until we’ve seen all the details, but it’s not too early to comment on the brazenness of Biden’s posture. He created the border crisis and has long denied it existed. But now that he wants to get more Ukraine funding (which would be paired up with the border deal) and is perhaps worried about the politics of the border crisis, he’s admitting that the border is “overwhelmed” and making the Trump-like pledge to shut it down. Please.

Biden inherited a border that was under control via humane and lawful policies that had been put in place by the Trump administration, most importantly Remain in Mexico. He then tore them all down and has spent years cynically and dishonestly blaming the resulting chaos on his predecessor. Whereas Trump used existing authorities to come up with ways to control the border, Biden has ignored the law to wave in millions of illegal immigrants.

The Republican architects of the deal will have trouble selling their colleagues on it, and not just because Trump is adamantly opposed. If Biden were sincere, he’d be doing what’s already in his power to crack down on the border, and if Biden could be constrained by new rules, he wouldn’t be ignoring the ones on the books right now.

Biden says he’s itching to bring the border under control. He should have at it.

Republics were for border control until they were against it. LOL

(yes, yes, yes, I understand that President Biden has done nothing (or worse than nothing for three years on the border.)

I have no doubt Biden will shut the border down if:

          1. It's politically expedient. All of his political life, Biden's only political strength is judging waves and getting on the opinion surfboard at the right time.
          2. Harris made the citizenship argument last week. Internal number crunching must currently show them they have imported enough new voters to maintain their long term power.

That was always the goal, wasn't it?

I think it's one of them. I think the other is a goal of socialism through a modification of the Cloward-Piven strategy.

                  https://www.axios.com/2024/01/29/oklahoma-republicans-condemn-lankford-senate-border-talks

The big picture: Oklahoma Republican Party vice chair Wayne Hill announced in a statement Saturday that the state GOP had passed a resolution condemning and censuring Lankford over the border talks, threatened to withdraw support for him and accused him of "playing fast and loose with Democrats" on the issue.

How does that make sense? A Senator is trying to work with the other party to get a deal that is acceptable to both and will not just result in the typical "no action". What is the result? He gets beat down by his own party

Trump has come out strongly against any bipartisan deal on the border.

Here is what the Republican lead Senator says about the potential deal

Lankford noted the "internet rumors" during a "Fox News Sunday" interview during which he said the bill "focuses on getting us to zero illegal crossings" per day.
"There's no amnesty. It increases a number of Border Patrol agents and it increases asylum officers. It increases detention beds so we can quickly detain and then deport individuals," he told Fox anchor Shannon Bream.
"It focuses on additional deportation flights out. It changes our asylum process so that people can get a fast asylum screening at a higher standard and then get returned back to their home country," Lankford added.

So, it seems as if they were for stricter border rules until their actually may be. Then, it may hurt them politically if something goes through, so they are not really for it now.

Until there's a bill, and, at present, it's all being done in smoke-filled rooms, we don't know what the proposals are.

One proposal (might be rumor) says that "illegal" crossings would be limited to 5,000 per day 1,825,000 per year.

Lankford can say what he wants. As George said, right now we have a concrete nothing.

I’ve got an objection to it on moral grounds. I am done with omnibus bills. I’m for Ukrainian support, I am for Border Control. Put each issue up for a vote by itself. They fly or they don’t
