A little offset can fix a lot

Solves the tall book problem too.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

My only concern would be the support for the shelves that are deep in the corner. There needs to be something to prevent them from sagging. Similarly, all of the "regular" shelves are kind of long and need something to prevent sagging.

A series of 1x1s in the corners would do the trick

              Yup.

I still feel the shelves are a bit too long, unless there's support underneath.

The shelves in our living room are ¾" plywood, about 42" long. But they have a strip of one-by at the front.

I’m mostly concerned that all those books will make the owner a huge nerd.

                Education is extremely important.

E-books make you a nerd, or even worse paper-back sci-fi with garish colours. Hard-back or even better leather-bound books make you an artisan hipster type.

                  I was only joking

                    👍

Though I don't think anyone's ever used the word "hipster" to describe me.

Maybe a man-bun would help, or you could plait your beard?
