Good, it worked, the murderer is deceased and this moment of feigned indignation is over and done. Move on.

Ultimately you're killing someone. There's never going to be a very palatable way to do so. Took 35 years in this case.

As previously stated, I think we should do away with it. This is not sympathy for the devils, but a recognition that our justice system is not exacting or consistent enough, and the effect it must have on those who participate.

Irrespective of any opinion I might have on continued use of the death penalty in the US, having someone sit on death row for 35 years while the legal system and politicians dither about when and/or how the convict’s sentence is to be carried out is morally deficient.

Seems to me that is a good starting point to begin any conversation on whether the death penalty is justifiable in a 21st century liberal democracy.

Yeah, effectively serving a life sentence and then getting executed at the end of it is really doubling down.

          I was only joking

Not just a life sentence, but 23 hours a day in a solitary cell.

Have no problem with it at all, if there is no question of guilt.

Fair trial, conviction, full appeal process. Quick and merciful death. Sitting in a cell for 35 years is a parody of life and certainly the antithesis of mercy.

But there so often is. That’s why I’m against it.

Finally, the execution was set for Saturday night. Smith had been on death row for three decades. And his execution was anti-climactic.

                      For whom?
