The op-ed struck me as a rather facile understanding of past thinkers and the Age of Reason. Furthermore to assume that any belief system is inevitable strikes me as bizarre.
Did a bit of digging on the author, Lewis Ungit. I think he is a kook and huckster.

At first I too thought he was trying to be funny. Upon more browsing about the guy, I concluded that he was in fact, not at all being funny. Like I said, a kook and a huckster. Would fit right in with the regulars on Ancient Aliens.

Fun fact: The pope is the first pope in ages not to live in the pope's apartment. Taking after his saints name, he lives in a single room with just basic furniture. (At least that is what I was told)
