Now...Since this is turning into a standard tactic...

Let's up the ante. Since the cops are responding to a supposedly violent situation, with the possibility of deadly force, let's change the initial charge to Attempted Murder.

                Hope so.

I suspect investigative assets will be made available to the local police.

A federal judge sentenced David DePape to 30 years in prison on Friday, more than 18 months after he attacked then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband with a hammer in the elderly couple’s San Francisco home.

The three-decade sentence was handed down by U.S. district judge Jacqueline Scott Corley, who ordered DePape to serve 20 years for an attempted kidnapping charge and 30 years for an assault charge. Both sentences will run simultaneously. DePape, who was convicted in November, has already served the first year and a half since he’s been in police custody.

During his federal trial last fall, DePape admitted to breaking into the Pelosi family’s home on October 28, 2022, and apologized for hitting Paul Pelosi with a hammer. He said he intended to kidnap Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) and hold her hostage. But after discovering the House speaker was in Washington, D.C., on business, he planned on waiting for her to return before Paul Pelosi called the police.

Believed to have been motivated by conspiracy theories, DePape wanted to question the longtime California Democrat about her alleged involvement in stealing the 2020 election from former president Donald Trump. If she lied, he threatened to “break her kneecaps.” The defendant appears to have been affiliated with nudists and conspiracy theorists in the past.

                    https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/rand-paul-attacker-sentenced-additional-prison-time-over-yard-assault-n1235013

The neighbor of Sen. Rand Paul who in 2017 attacked the Kentucky Republican during a dispute about their yards was sentenced Monday to an additional eight months in prison for the assault.

Rene Boucher must also serve six months in home confinement, U.S. District Court Judge Matthew Leitman said Monday. Boucher will receive credit for the 30 days in prison he has already served.

Boucher had initially been sentenced to 30 days in jail for the attack, as well as 100 hours of community service and a $10,000 fine, but prosecutors said that sentence was too lenient and won the right to argue for a harsher sentence.

In a separate civil case, Boucher was also ordered to pay Paul more than $580,000 in damages.

Prosecutors were seeking a prison term of 21 to 27 months for Boucher.

During the virtual hearing, Paul, who suffered broken ribs in the November 2017 attack, said he flew 10 feet in the air from the force of the attack and was left with a “significant injury that I have lifelong symptoms from.”

                      Still seems too lenient

They’ll end up, after a lot of drama, with the same formula they use every time they have a trifecta: take away health care and food assistance from low income families and use the money to fund tax cuts for their donors.

I imagine a good chance that in the Paul case, the motivation was partially political. I don't imagine a political motive in the Pelosi case.

That was a 20 year sentence to run concurrently with the 30 year assault charge.

IOW, other than from a legal perspective, the kidnapping charge to which he pled guilty is moot.

The guy who "wanted to kidnap pelosi" is legit mentally ill. Paul's neighbor not so much. I wonder if there was some normal tribal bad blood there with the Paul attack.
