At the Geezers' Lunch we talked about the local golf club.

It seems that the club wants to do some improvements:

    • redoing the greens
    • fixing the sand traps
    • improving irrigation

The membership voted down the proposal.

Is it just possible that the $58,000 assessment per member might have made them vote "No?"

I've never set foot on a golf course, but this kind of stuff makes me glad I never did.

I have no idea what the "membership fee" is to get in, or what the monthly/yearly fees are. Not to mention the requirements for monthly spend.

What are typical fees for membership, joining, etc?

Oh, you can't just apply - you have to be recommended.

I pay $300-$400 per month for unlimited golf, cart rental and nice practice facilities.
I play about 20 times per month, all 12 months.
My initial membership fee was waived - zero dollars.

A new guy is in the process of buying this course. He owns a club over in Virginia Beach.
That club costs between $50K and $75K initial membership fee.
      $5K-$10K annual dues

I assume they have crazy assessments like the one you mentioned. that is typical for a fancy pants place.

So the fancy boys pay 20 times more than me and I get a better golf experience.
I'm the first guy on the course every weekday. One or 2 regular guys might play with me. It's like I have a personal golf course. But the fancy place has nicer grass than I do.

I don't normally hang around the club house, so that's not a factor.

I hope the new owner doesn't bring his fancy prices here.

When I went into private practice, we had our monthly meetings at the local golf club. The senior member of our group was a member of the club.

        Nice deal for this guy.

        • meet the monthly minimum spend
        • have the practice pay for the meals - business, you know.

        I was sooo naive.

ETA: This is not the club I was referring to in the original post.
