Today’s selection is the Finale from Bruch’s Violin Concerto #1,
performed by soloist Chloe Chua and the Singapore Symphony.
The composer and the work: Bruch, not among the most well-known, so a bit off the beaten path. Stylistically I place him in the late-classical/early-romantic category, and conservatively so. This work should be very nice and comfortable for most classical music concert goers.
The soloist: Chloe Chua was a child prodigy, now successfully matured into a world class concert violinist.
The orchestra: Singapore Symphony, not the most prestigious, but they try hard, and relatively well-funded and fairly drama-free (compared to American orchestras)
