The Wheel of Time

Anybody watched it?
I've just finished Season 2, and I really quite enjoyed it.
They've mucked about with the story details quite a bit, but all that stuff about it being hopelessly woke was complete bollocks, not true at all.

Well there isn't any men bad, women good stuff - at least, no more than the books. Did you feel it was pandering to the woke?

Read and watch what Judkins has said about the series and then get back to me on how woke it wasn't intended to be. The series' own showrunner disagrees with you.

By the way, I have two problems with the woke stuff in WoT.
- Fuck woke shit.
- It breaks the story and makes the whole thing stupid. Best online comment I can find that summarizes the problem:
The two rivers is supposed to be a homogenous culture, not a multicultural utopia. if everyone looks different from each other, there is nothing odd about growing up with red hair. instead of looking like a homogenous agrarian village with strong genetic ties to Manatheren, it looks like a hippy commune in Santa Barbara.
It's not just that, of course. Being able to be reborn as any gender you like makes the entire premise of the story nonsensical. Oh and let's play a fun game called "what's the female badass/male simp ratio." There was a lot of that in the books, but (1) not in every culture, like in the show and (2) the whole point to that in the books was that while understandable, that's not how you fix the world. The series just embraces it.

I don't tend to watch shows about shows. I just watched the show. I quite liked it, and didn't think it was particularly woke. Silly me.
"Being reborn as any gender" is all good fun and what have you, but it didn't actually happen. Rand is still a bloke. Lanfear is still a MILF. Sammy was still an Arab. I actually thought making the Forsaken all a bit Arabic was a bit dodgy, but I was willing to overlook it in the interests of bad people looking Arabic being fairly standard.

I dunno what to tell you, other than they admit to trying to make a woke series, and a big part of the fanbase that isn't woke themselves believe they succeeded.
Then again, at least it wasn't made with AI. That starts to get commonplace and I'm going to put a hard stop on watching or reading anything made this century. We all gotta get old and jump off the trendy train at some point I guess.

OK, fair enough - my woke-dar isn't particularly sensitive, I guess. Yes, the multi-ethnicity of The Two Rivers is a bit silly, but it didn't really bother me.
I'm in two minds about the changes they made to the storyline. On the one hand, the first six or so books did a great job of world-building. On the other the second six or so books felt a bit like those really massive computer games where you just want it to end. I would happily have smashed the Bowl of the Winds into a million pieces.

Frankly, I couldn’t get past Perrin being happily married. Completely hurts the character at this point and damages future story lines.
I watched two episodes and was bored.

No, I didn't really understand the point of that. It would have been funnier if they'd had him married to a bloke. I guess the whole killing his own wife thing was put in to give a reason for his abhorrence of violence? Not really necessary.
It's over 26 years since I started the books so I've forgotten some of the plot details, but that did seem a bit odd.
I didn't really like what they did with Matt's character, either.
Overall, I enjoyed it. I'm not particularly obsessed with the books or anything, I always saw them as a fun romp rather than high art.
