RIP Dick Butkus
-
According to Hall of Fame defensive end Deacon Jones, Butkus "was a well-conditioned animal, and every time he hit you, he tried to put you in the cemetery, not the hospital."
In 2009, the NFL Network named Butkus the most feared tackler of all time.

One tough sumbitch… but he also came across off the field as a helluva nice guy. I don’t know if it’s true, but I hope it is. I love that contrast.

It’s funny we were talking about soldier field earlier. The very first game played there was against the Steelers in 1971. Pittsburgh was up 15-3 in the 4th quarter. Butkus picked off Bradshaw twice in 4th, and forced a fumble in the closing minutes at the 10 yard line or so. The Bears backup QB came in and threw a touchdown that gave them the win. How friggin Bears is that?

Seriously that’s a great story. He was a legend.
