If you play the guitar left handed, are the strings upside down, or is it "restrung" so it is the same as a right hand guitar?

Normally they sell left-handed guitars, but Jimi Hendrix used a right-handed one and played it upside down with the strings re-strung so they were in their natural order.

The most difficult challenge in jams as a lap steel player was following the left handed rhythm guitarist on tunes you didn’t know.

@Doctor-Phibes that’s because left hand guitars are more expensive. At least then. And he could only afford a righty. I understand Paul McCartney did the same, but I guess by 1963 Paul could have bought any fucking guitar he wanted. Jimi also, but I think with him it was a matter of pride. Knowing where he rose from.

Somebody should develop a left-handed piano. It's the one thing that's been holding me back
