I disagree. We alone have the ability to help these countries fast-track industrialization. I think that helps the environment more than anything the greenies have in mind.

Energy consumption grows, sure, but we become more efficient at it and less destructive to the environment.
As to that first point, though, every society that industrializes slows their birth rate down considerably. That is huge.
David Attenborough is one of the most knowledgable lefties on the planet when it comes to our planet. When he agrees with American conservatives that the best thing we can do for the environment is industrialize the rest of the world as quickly as possible, it's worth listening I think. They make a good case.
