A possible explanation in the comments - maybe the last time he bought groceries was in the 70s and he paid with a check? Sometimes they’d make you put your drivers license number on the back.

Not just the 70's. Some people (mostly older folks) still pay with a check, at least down here. Now, at Wallyworld and some stores, they just run your check through a reader and it instantly deducts from your checking account. They then hand the check back to you.

But at mom&pops, like the gas station or the burger joint, they want to see your driver's license number, either on the check or the actual license.

    Everywhere ain't New Yawk City.

You privileged wealthy people wouldn't be familiar with showing an ID to get food stamps.

        Unlike Donald Trump, apparently.

Yeah, I bet that's what Trump was referring to. I bet he's got a ton of friends who do that.

Maybe I'm the only one here who's ever been asked to show ID when using a credit card at the grocery store? It was a not uncommon occurrence in CA. I don't think it's happened in TX.

Nope, you're not alone. It's not happened to me here in Illinois, but in New Orleans, you betcha.

True. George has Lithuania blood which, to us WASPS, seems a little, well, ethnic.

I don't know Horace's excuse. Must be the look in his stone cold eyes. Or maybe the bunny costume.

You need ID to get a job as a chauffeur and drive the limo to the store to pick up bread for the boss who just got peckish in the middle of the night
