Buy iPhone or Apple Stock?

I’m buying the phone. I want to retire the lightening connector.
That, IMO, is the best reason to "upgrade."
I'm on a 13 currently. It's fine, but the convenience of having USB-c for everything is a big draw (my iPad is USB-c).

You can also record in log profiles and output directly to an external device. That's massive. But yes I understand nobody else here will care in the least.

@Aqua-Letifer I don't use an iPhone. Explain what the heck you're talking about man!
"record in log files"
Record what into a log profile?
What is a "log profile"?
Are you saving this as a file on the phone? Why would you want to record in the log profile? what does that even mean?
and
"output directly to an external device"
Are we talking audio? video? What kind if external device, and what are you sending to the external device? I genuinely care a lot about this. I just need to know what "it" is.

It's a way of recording video so that the exposure is recorded using a different gamma curve. It creates a dull, more washed out recording, so it has to be edited, but the point is, there's no crushed blacks or blown out highlights.

Both the 15 pro and 15 pro max will be able to record video directly to an external USB C SSD.

Got it. Sounds like some great features. I take it you can have a collection of profiles with a lot of control over the parameters to easily switch all of them at once.
I have been considering moving back to an iPhone next time around just to see how much they have improved since my last one. I still like the Galaxy S23 Ultra but I am always willing to explore other platforms. I am also having some issues with sms texts never making it to my phone. I am still trying to resolve that issue with Verizon. I am also currently considering switching back to AT&T so I might also make the switch to iPhone.
Thanks!

I have editing presets to start off at a certain baseline, yeah. But I can't use them nearly as much as I'd like because the files I get are often from a phone and therefore not recorded in log. (Even though apps have allowed you to do this for years now.) Which means starting from scratch more often than not and it's a ton of wasted time.

@Aqua-Letifer I just did a quick dive into log. Sounds like what we were manually doing in astrophotography by utilizing grayscale sensors for the absolute highest resolution. Talk about desaturation! lol
We used physical optical glass filters to expose the individual color channels. But the individual channels were always "desaturated" as the sensor was not capturing color. We use filters for RGB, LRGB, CMY, and even specialty narrowband filters for the detection of elements in the nebulae which we would assign to the color channel that best represented the stronger spectral emissions of that element.

That's cool!
I do something similar with IR photography. I'll take three images that will provide the R, G, and B color channels. But I'll use a combination of filters to restrict other wavelengths, and only allow in the others. Then I'll re-composite by defining the RGB channels in Photoshop based on those photos to create the resulting image.

@taiwan_girl I was able to find a 3-pack on Amazon for about $8. Syncing my iPhone with a USB-C cable and this adapter was without issue.
Thanks!
I was thinking about upgrading my iPhone 13 to the new iPhone 15, but the features are not all that compelling for me. I'll probably pass this year.

Are you sure? Maybe hear what @Horace has to say before making any rash decision?

I'm not upgrading from my 12, but I have a standing recommendation that everybody else does so, every year.
Sorry @Horace I am still using the iPhone 7 plus, and probably will until they stop allowing upgrades to it. LOL

That's impressive that it still works. Apple makes such solid, long lasting products. Super impressive company IMO.

@Horace It has been a very good phone. I was proud of myself that I changed the battery by myself, as the short battery life was my only dislike, but that is now not a problem anymore.
However, if I ever had to take the batter in again, I would probably take it to one of those repair shops. If I figure what my time is worth, it probably cost more to do by myself. LOL
Though again, my time may not be worth that much and so maybe it was worth it. 555

Life is a sequence of present experiences. If you felt good about changing the battery and felt engaged in doing so, it was a good thing to do.

I have an old iPhone 8 whose battery was getting old. A repair shop wanted about $150 to replace it. I could get a refurbed phone for less than that. I opted to not replace and just keep it plugged in. It sits in the car and is an "emergency" or "Damn, I forgot my phone at home" device.

I’m actually upgrading from a 14 I bought three months ago.
But it’s not as crazy as it sounds.
I was limping along with my 11, holding out until I could get a phone with USB-C. But the screen crapped out and I had to get a new phone. I was going to get an old 11 to tie me over, but then suggested to the gf that I get a 14, use it for a few months, and then give it to her when I upgrade. She doesn’t care about the connector.
You’re welcome, Horace.
