demand begets supply
Lithium deposit found in US may be among world’s largest, study finds
Automakers, threatened by possible shortages of lithium for EV batteries, are racing to lock in supplies
A deposit of lithium recently discovered along the Nevada-Oregon border may be among the world’s largest, having potentially huge implications for the transition to electric vehicles.
Volcanologists and geologists from Lithium Americas Corporation, GNS Science, and Oregon State University reported their findings in a paper for Science Advances, published August 31.

The mine will be glorious!
Hopefully we can get some kids to dig it up.
There’s lots of LatinX kids in NY that need somewhere to go… We can put them on Puberty Blockers for a few years to keep them small so they can fit in the tight spaces…

Maybe another massive lithium find in the US.

The ubiquity of the element is why the United States Geological Survey (USGS) deemed it a critical mineral in November. While the U.S. remains highly reliant on imports of lithium, a new report from the USGS found an estimated 2.3 million metric tons of the lithium oxide in Appalachia, enough to replace 328 years’ worth of U.S. imports at last year’s level.
“This research shows that the Appalachians contain enough lithium to help meet the nation’s growing needs,” USGS director Ned Mamula said in a statement, “a major contribution to U.S. mineral security, at a time when global lithium demand is rising rapidly.”
