A sticky question - need glue advice
-
I'm really enjoying my iPad Pro (12.9). I have it installed in a keyboard made by the now-defunct Brydge company. It attaches via a hinge. The hinges are two metal - aluminum? - slots that hold a rubberized shim. The rubber grips the iPad firmly so that you can lift the assembly by the iPad and it won't fall out of the keyboard.
The problem with the shims is that they are a BITCH to install properly. Brydge shipped them with thin double-sided tape on them. Somehow, you're expected to remove the paper backing of the shim and, while avoiding the tape sticking to the inner surface of the wings, wriggle it all the way down so it seats at the bottom of the hinge.
So, I'm thinking it might be better to glue the shim into the hinge of the dock. I would remove all adhesive from the hinge and the shim. Position the shim all the way down into the slot and dribble some adhesive down behind the shim. Once the glue is dry, voila!
The dock is made from aluminum, and the shim is some kind of rubberized material.
Any suggestions?

I think I'd stick the shim to the Ipad first from those pics. It's sticky on both sides, right?

No, the shim only has the double sided tape applied to the side that goes against the hinge. It's a pressure fit to the iPad.
Applying it to the iPad first would be a pain, because you have to have them positioned just so so that they align with the hinges. We're talking millimeters here.

Without removing the paper backing, wriggle the shim into place first, then pull the paper backing from the sides. Maybe get a couple pair of tweezers to help with the job.
