A cynic might say that the best way of ensuring a good voter turnout is to keep promising something that people want, but then find ways to be thwarted so that you can continue to promise it.
Once it's put in place, the one-issue voters stop bothering to vote.

These days the GOP fears the abortion issue so bad that they dread any election that has abortion as an issue on the ballot.
Ohio's recent Aug.8 "Issue 1" special election shows you to what great lengths the GOP is willing to go to not have abortion appear as an issue on the ballot.

The supreme court was not acting as the strategy wing of the GOP, that is for sure.

I have to admit it'll be amusing if he wins in 2024. With these shenanigans, it seems all but inevitable that he'll have the nomination. I thought there was a chance he'd be beaten in the primaries if America had some distance from the drama and time to reflect, but obviously that won't be happening.
