The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

      Liked this...

But it does feel like Windows is increasingly getting sucked into the vortex of what Cory Doctorow colorfully calls "enshittification"—the tendency of platforms to gradually stop centering the user in favor of centering revenue and then getting ever more desperate to bring in more revenue, ruining the product in the process.

My limited experience with the Microsoft product has been that there's always a fair amount of bloat/crapware that gets installed by default. The fact that you have to "clean up" afterward is ridiculous.

The author points out that Apple and others also install their own apps. The Mac OS installs versions of photo/movie/mail programs but they are not third-party and are not IN YOUR FACE like the Microsoft install.

I think Apple over-nags their iOS/iPadOS users when it comes to biometric scan setup, iCloud setup, various Apple TV/News/game Arcade subscription trial offers, credit card registration with iTunes/App Store ... otherwise Apple is fine.

I'm happy with Mac OS for now.

If it will go the route Windows has taken, I'll swallow the bitter pill and switch to Linux.

@Klaus said in No more "clean" install for Windows 11:

              switch to Linux.

I played with Linux, for the first time, in 2004, iirc. It was "not ready for prime time." As a guy at the computer store told me at the time, "It's an OS written by geeks for geeks."

Has it gotten better, less "fussy?"

Apple takes your money directly out of your pocket.

Microsoft helps third parties take it.

At least you get an option with MS.
