    On Reddit...

"Had an interview for an upper management position in a large big box retailer today. I scheduled the interview with the district manager last week for 12:30pm today.

I arrive at 12:20 and check in at customer service. The team member there said she notified them and they said they would be "right down". 20 minutes later, nobody has come down, that team member walks past me again and said she notified them a second time but they must be in a meeting.

Another 25 minutes goes by and nobody has come. I get up and notify that same team member that I'm leaving and if the district manager does eventually come down to let them know that. As I'm walking out the district manager finally comes. She said she's sorry and that she got caught up. I said that's fine but I have other things I have to do and it was extremely unprofessional to leave me waiting for 45 minutes and continued to walk out.

I'd also like to say I'm an extremely patient person and have never done anything like this before. I have a ton of experience and multiple job offers on the table but the one today was the one I was Gung ho for. Owell."

    A comment:

    5 minutes I understand.
    10 minutes I can forgive.
15 minutes better be a good offer.
20+ and they're either incompetent or testing you, and either one isn't worth it.

In the current labor market, when considering a well-qualified candidate, I would not make them wait that long without an apology and an explanation.

Phibes, it's on the internet. It must be right.

            I agree with his reaction.

I am a pretty clam person, but there was a doctor that I had where they were always late. I finally ended up finding another doctor. I did write them a letter explaining my reasons, including the fact that my time is just as valuable as theirs and they wouldn't like it if I was consistently late to appointments.

I had to wait an hour for the vet last week. I figured they were probably busy. Shit happens, even for seniors management positions at box stores.

Maybe they were interviewing the principal senior sales executive before the senior sales executive and wanted to make sure this key position was filled first.

Entirely different environment. At the vet's, you have to see the vet. There's no one else. In this kind of situation—interview for an upper management position—you're going to meet with at least a handful of people. Pull in someone, anyone. Do that first until the other people are ready.

Shit I've been in that situation before and that's what happened. Further, I've had to bail my boss out in a situation like that at least a handful of times.

                    Please love yourself.

If you are 5 minutes early

                                      You are 5 minutes late

I wear sneakers and a Tron t-shirt to interviews.

Presumably you're trying to distract them from the fact that you've got a degree in poetry?

Oh I bring that up as soon as possible. It's a great stress test.

                                      Please love yourself.

You should show up in a black velvet suit with a carnation in the button hole.

I had an Irish friend who once did that to a works do. Pretty much the entire dinner was spent listening to his wife telling him he needed to return the suit.

                                        I was only joking

Your clothing is a great way to send a message.
