Have you ever seen a hummingbird at rest?

I was just watching “ours” working a flower just now next to the feeder.

Every day. We have a hummingbird swing near one of our three feeders. They like it. So beautiful.

Indeed, they have to rest quite a bit. It takes a lot of energy to rev up those little wings. The alpha males and females use their rest time to scan the area and protect their territory, including their favorite feeders.

When there's an unwanted hummer going to a feeder, that's when the excitement starts. Much chasing, dive bombing, soaring up high, and chattering. It's like watching planes in an aerial dogfight.
