Amazon Studios has just announced further expansion of the Bosch universe. With the Bosch spin-off Bosch: Legacy having just been renewed for a second season on Freevee, two additional Bosch spin-offs had just been added to the docket. One of the new spinoffs announced is a still untitled project that will follow Detective Renée Ballard in her work in the cold case division of the LAPD.

    Interesting.

I'm on book #3 of the Bosch/Ballard series and I'm enjoying - in a popcorn kind of way.

With Harry retired from the LAPD, and now working with Honey (Money) Chandler in the Legacy series, I wonder how much Harry will be in the new spinoff. He's a major player in the books, of course.

Oh I'm so down for this.

I really liked the Ballard books. Like Bosch, she's an outsider in the department. But because she works the Late Show, she has even more latitude to go off freelancing.

      Please love yourself.

Like I said, I'm only on #3 right now, but they seem to be "tighter" than the early Bosch books. Yeah, the early ones are good, they're all "good," but it was a while before it seems that Connelly hit his stride. Although the Ballard books are pretty formulaic - two concurrent (or more) cases, lots out "outsider" stuff, etc - I get better sense of direction with them than I did with the early Bosch books.

Yeah, I think that's accurate. Also, how Ballard deals with office politics is different than Bosch. She often plans ahead when she goes off the reservation, while Bosch is more of a "we'll figure it out on the way to the courthouse" kind of detective.

          Please love yourself.

Interesting comment, considering how, today, I read about her getting a judge to approve a wiretap with a "questionable" authorization from her superior. I wonder if that deception will come around to bite her in the ass....
