US Marines have no Leader

@Jolly said in US Marines have no Leader:
If the appointments are that damn important, strip the abortion stuff out.
Or, flip the question. Is abortion question more important to Sen. Tuberville than not staffing important diplomatic and military posts? Should one person's contrary view speak for the majority?
We saw the problems that happened (and continue to happen) in Niger without appointments.
We have seen the beginnings of the same with Israel.

Not saying that having an appointed US liaison to West Africa would have prevented the coupe, it certainly would not have hurt.
The first French soldiers left Niger on Tuesday in an overland convoy under local escort, possibly to Chad, just as the United States announced the withdrawal of its aid to the country, which has been ruled by a military regime since late July.
And Russia looks to fill the opening...

Will anyone respond to General Hayden's call to remove the senator from the human race so we can get going and have leadership at the Marines?
@George-K Maybe President Trump would do it? He did after all, call for Gen. Milley to be executed.
-
Not really. LOL
George asked if anyone would respond to Gen Haydens call. I mentioned a potential candidate who has already expressed an interest in killing public officials.

Can you point to where he said that?

Donald Trump, on his social-media network, Truth Social, wrote that Mark Milley’s phone call to reassure China in the aftermath of the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021, was “an act so egregious that, in times gone by, the punishment would have been DEATH.
I am corrected, he did not specifically say he would kill him, but to me, there does not seem to be a whole lot of difference between this and what Gen Hayden said.
Both are stupid to have said what they said.

Agreed.
Trump, however, explicitly said, "in times gone by." In times gone by we killed people by bleeding them (George Washington) and we burned witches. Those were wrong too.
Hayden makes no such distinction, and for an allegedly smart man, he should know better. And Trump should have as well.

I think you are splits hairs a bit. LOL If this was the first time he said something stupid, maybe I would say it was an "error, "didn't really mean it", "didn't mean to hit send", etc.
But we certainly agree it was stupid by both guys. :couple_with_heart:

Precisely. One would think the former director of CIA would know better than to make comments like that about a sitting senator. One practically expects it from Trump, but when the supposed "good guys" do it....
And, Hayden has doubled down on his comment.

Senate Republicans erupt in anger over Tuberville’s military freeze

Contrary to what Sen. Tuberville had said earlier
As the night wore on, Sullivan and Ernst — herself a former commander in the U.S. Army Reserve and Iowa Army National Guard — continued to bring up new nominations and appeared to become increasingly frustrated. They noted that they were bringing up the nominations “one by one” as Tuberville had once called for, and asked why he wouldn’t allow them to go forward. Tuberville did not answer. “I do not respect men who do not honor their word,” Ernst said at one point.

Sure, let’s demote him to Non-Human Primate and make him ineligible for the office.

It really is over the top behavior which no administration could ever capitulate to.
Normally political hostage taking involves abstractions like budgets or political posts. Who would have guessed even a decade ago that the modern GOP would insert the military in the hostage role.
-
Well, that was a waste of 10 months.
More than 400 senior military officers were promoted Tuesday following months of delay after Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., ended his blockade on military confirmations without winning any change to the Pentagon abortion policy he was protesting.

List of people promoted in the afternoon promotion session.

@Jolly said in US Marines have no Leader:
You think it accomplished nothing?
From his point of view, yes, it accomplished nothing.
However, he did do something that is quite rare in today's political atmosphere. He managed to have a group of almost 99 senators be bipartisan against him. So, I guess we should give him credit for that. LOL
