I can appreciate the effort as aqua describes it, but I question whether anyone wants to bother with it. I may be projecting my own biases, but there you go.

A shitload of people want to bother with it. It's growing fast. No, that doesn't mean I'm trying to convince you to get on board, and no, this absolutely will not last, but here's what's going on in my corner of the world:
If you make things, it's incredibly difficult for the things you make not to die in a closet somewhere unless you use social media.
The problem with that is, you can't just express yourself on there. You have to frame it in a way that has nothing to do with authenticity. You have to satisfy algorithms. Post one story a day, 3-5 reels per week, create one post a day, comment on at least 100 accounts to "warm up the algorithm before you post, make sure you post at noon, do your hashtag research, start collabs, participate in dance trends, trick viewers into retention to get them past the 2-second video threshold, etc., etc., etc. It's fucking ridiculous.
Right now, Threads is the Wild West. It doesn't even have any ads yet. All that will change and who the hell knows what monstrosity they'll turn it into, but right now, they're getting everyone hooked on a stripped down platform where people who make stuff can have fun deciding how they'd like to share it and not getting penalized for it.
Everyone knows this is fleeting, so they're making hay while the sun doth shine. It's temporary, but it's as close to fun as a Mark Zuckerberg social media platform could ever be.
Oh and for the record, I have every confidence they'll fuck up the concept of open social, too. But it's noteworthy a major company is giving it a go, both with a new and existing platform.

@Aqua-Letifer You would not believe the argument that I just had with our marketing director over Social Media… I need you to talk to him.

Me - “I really think we would need to also start marketing on Instagram, at least”
Him - “No way, Instagram skews too young. Most of their audience skews younger, 25-35, maybe up to 40. Our customers are 40-55…”
Owner of the company - “yeah, our median customer is older, and getting moreso every year. We don’t sell to nearly as many 30-35 year olds as we did 10 years ago. and it gets worse every year”
Me - “So right around the time they dropped Facebook in favor of Instagram? You don’t see the direct correlation?”

Oh God help him. Is he aware of streaming television?
- Social media adoption always starts young, then trickles up. It's been like that with every platform. He's dealing with Obama-era demographic information. The kids these days are on TikTok (and to some extent BeReal). Suburban moms and dads? It's no coincidence that 89th said his primary platform is IG.
- This is all immaterial anyway. Some businesses find their young audience on freaking Facebook. Others have their beauty line for seniors blow up on TikTok. You never know what's truly going to work until you try it. Every business, audience, location, etc. is different.

Holy hell. Classic dumbshit owner. (Not saying he doesn't know his business. But he doesn't know social media for shit.)
"Unfortunately, our demographic gets older every year. We're not getting anyone younger interested in our products."
"Then why don't we start using IG?"
"That's stupid, they're all young over there!" -
