      Does this mean he's good?๐Ÿ˜„

        He's great.

        I also enjoyed his novels.

I liked the thing he did recently with Martin Short. He comes across as a very likeable bloke.

          I was only joking

He does. Apparently he's quite shy in person. No one is more amazed by his success than him. He's also an avid art collector.

I read "Shopgirl" many years ago. Yeah, it's a "chick book," but I found it charming having gotten 'in touch' with my feminine side. He appeared in the movie version of the book as well.

"Pleasure Of My Company" is totally different - the protagonist is besieged with horrible OCD, and the plot revolves around how he deals with it, unusual neighbors, etc.

Check out his autobiography, "Born Standing Up," for more.

              From Wikipedia:

Martin first picked up the banjo when he was around 17 years of age. Martin has stated in several interviews and in his memoir, Born Standing Up, that he used to take 33 rpm bluegrass records and slow them down to 16 rpm and tune his banjo down, so the notes would sound the same. Martin was able to pick out each note and perfect his playing.

Martin learned how to play the banjo with help from John McEuen, who later joined the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. McEuen's brother later managed Martin as well as the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Martin did his stand-up routine opening for the band in the early 1970s...

In 2001, he played banjo on Earl Scruggs's remake of "Foggy Mountain Breakdown". The recording was the winner of the Best Country Instrumental Performance category at the Grammy Awards of 2002.

If you haven't already, you should watch the movie with Martin Short - he plays with the same band on that at one point. I think it's on Netflix - "An evening you will forget for the rest of your life"

He used to sponsor (or still does) an award for the best new banjo player every year.

(On another note, he is a person who has looked the same for about 30 years or so. LOL Doesn't seem like he has changed much)
