The NFL is so protective of the brand, especially if the player is a rookie. Look at Collins and the murder case. He was a sure-fire 1st rounder, who went undrafted and was later cleared by the police of all suspicion. Dallas eventually signed him as a free agent and he's had a decent career, marred by injuries, though.
But the millions of dollars he lost....
